Great Britain Names 2016 European Championship Team

Today Great Britain announced the gymnasts who will compete at the 2016 European Championships June 1 – 5 in Bern, Switzerland.

The team includes 2012 Olympian Rebecca Tunney, 2008 Olympian Rebecca Downie, recent Osijek World Challenge Cup champion of everything Ellie Downie, 2014 Commonwealth Games star Claudia Fragapane and future NCAA star Ruby Harrold. Both Downie sisters, Fragapane, and Harrold represented Great Britain at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow where they earned the country’s first ever team medal.

The team appears to greatly compliment each others strengths and weaknesses, with Ruby and Downie the Elder excelling on bars whereas Downie the Younger and Fragapane perform well on the power events such as vault and floor. Fragapane earned the gold medal on beam at the 2016 British Championships and Rebecca Tunney took silver which suggests a strong beam team. Amy Tinkler, current British floor champion and member of the  2015 World Championships team, removed herself from contention in order to focus on school exams and the upcoming Olympic Games.

Good luck to the gymnasts in Bern!
